Bubble Baths for Relaxation

Being a social worker has its high and low points. I've had to learn to handle many a stressful situation. Having the ability to cope with stress is a prerequisite to becoming an effective social worker, and still be able to handle your own emotional health. Over the years I have used several techniques to help me relax through out the day, as well as at the end. During the day I take advantage of my breaks to go for short strolls outdoors. The exercise and air help me keep everything I'm dealing with in perspective. Then when I come home after a long day I slip into a nice hot bubble bath to unwind. This is especially soothing during those long winter months, nothing like the fragrance of bubble bath to help relax, and flush your mind from the day.

My sister is well aware that I have always loved relaxing in a bubble bath. It's something we did growing up before bed time to ensure a good nights sleep. She's never forgotten it, and last year right around my birthday it came to surface. I had been working on a very stressful case at work, and were going to trial in the coming days. It was a very serious trial on whether the parental right was to be taken away from their three children who had been neglected and abused. The children's parents had spent some time in jail for several offenses including an assault on a child. Since then the children had been in foster homes and everything had been going very well for them. The current foster family wanted very much to adopt the children and offer them a permanent home and loving family. Of course the foster parents how ever were very stressed out as well know the hearing was coming up, and I was spending a lot of time preparing my notes and presentation for the hearing as well.

My sister called quite a few times that week to see when I might be available to go out for my birthday. Unfortunately I kept have to put it off all due to the upcoming trial for these children and their foster parents. It was obvious to her that I was under a lot of stress, so she was ok with having to postpone. A few days after my birthday had passed a big basket showed up in my office for me. In the basket was a box of chocolates, several varieties of bubble bath, and a card from my sister. It was a very thoughtful gift, one intended to ensure I look after myself. Her gift to me gave me a wonderful idea for the foster children and parents whom I had been working with. I took the time that evening to pick up some bubble bath products and bath toys for the children and parents and bring them to their home. I encouraged them to enjoy a relaxing bath and play. It's one of the most relaxing activities I enjoy, and while it might not seem like much on the surface those moments can really help you relax and unwind from what ever of life's situations are pulling you down.
